Sustainability

If we are to discuss sustainability in our hospitality businesses, we must first define the concept. Sustainability entails the judicious utilization of resources to ensure long-term viability. Therefore, from the three pillars—Ecological, Social, and Economic—we prioritize ecological resources: natural resources such as water, land, air, and energy; social resources: human effort, expertise, and capabilities; and economic resources: time, capital, commodities, and services.

Consequently, the congruence of the various factors in the environments in which we operate, which are influenced to a greater or lesser extent by our actions, is paramount. What constitutes ideality? How does sustainability manifest? It arises from how these factors converge to facilitate the progress of human activities that minimize resource utilization and waste.

Specifically regarding our Hospitality businesses, given the global impact of “Climate Change,” we must assume a leading role in the progress we make. This should minimize our ecological footprint and generate a positive carbon footprint, enabling future generations to enjoy our planet in improved conditions.

There are opportunities to collaborate with contractors, suppliers, local authorities, regional authorities, and national authorities. These government entities issue laws, regulations, and decrees that outline our responsibilities.
Solid waste management today offers numerous treatment and utilization options. The diverse materials utilized in the hospitality industry, such as construction materials, furniture, equipment, and operating assets, can undergo various transformations, reuses, remanufacturing, and recycling processes. The effectiveness of these approaches hinges on our proactive and adaptable approach to waste management.

There is a significant focus on alternative energy sources due to their direct impact on our daily lives. Energy bills reflect the costs associated with generating, distributing, and delivering the resource, including efficiency implications such as rationing, high costs, and lost productivity due to resource shortages (e.g., water or electricity). Additionally, there are concerns about the substantial acquisition or investment costs required to implement these options in our facilities. However, there are programs sponsored by large generators or distributors that enable us to actively participate in sustainability and circularity initiatives.

Therefore, let us transform sustainability into a revenue-generating venture for our businesses, communities, and regions. By embracing sustainability and circularity, we can not only enhance the sustainability, efficiency, and profitability of our businesses but also actively participate in the ecological revolution that the planet urgently requires. In this manner, we will become catalysts for positive change.
